A Port St. Lucie man is facing serious time behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing an auto-firing Glock.
Darroll C. Gilchrist, 18, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm on June 11.
The arrest came after Gilchrist was taken into custody on July 28, 2023, on an outstanding warrant. Deputies discovered a modified Glock model 19 firearm with a “Glock switch” on Gilchrist’s person.
The “Glock switch” allowed the firearm to fire automatically, discharging more than one shot with a single pull of the trigger.
Gilchrist faces up to 10 years in federal prison and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing is set for September 5 before U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The case is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime through a collaborative effort between law enforcement and community stakeholders.
The PSN program has been proven effective in reducing violent crime, with a focus on targeting the most violent offenders and partnering with prevention and reentry programs to make local neighborhoods safer.
Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Hudock is prosecuting the case, with the ATF Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office leading the investigation.
