Dominic Donta Jones, Heroin Trafficking, Virginia 2024

NORFOLK, Va. – A pair of Portsmouth men have been locked away for 21 years for their roles in a notorious family-run heroin-trafficking organization, according to the Department of Justice USAO.

Domestic felons Dominic Donta Jones, 27, and Raewkon Akil Pierce, 24, were sentenced for their involvement in the Jones DTO, led by Malcolm Jones, Sr. The operation was a web of drug dealing and gun sales throughout Hampton Roads, Virginia.

The duo’s criminal activities included managing drug distribution at the ‘Court,’ a residence that served as a hub for heroin, fentanyl, Acetyl fentanyl, crack, and powder cocaine. They stocked up on firearms to protect their trade, and Jones even sold a handgun during a heroin transaction that turned out to be laced with deadly fentanyl and Acetyl fentanyl.

This case is part of Operation High Tide, a wide-ranging investigation targeting high-impact crime in Hampton Roads neighborhoods. It also aligns with Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s campaign to combat gun violence and enforce firearms laws. Project Guardian has been instrumental in coordinating federal, state, local, and tribal efforts to investigate and prosecute gun crimes.

U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger; ATF Special Agent in Charge Ashan M. Benedict; and Chesapeake Police Chief Col. K.L. Wright announced the sentences following sentencing by U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William B. Jackson and Kristin Bird prosecuted the case.
