A Kansas post office employee’s dirty secret has finally been exposed. Gayli Harman, 44, used her position to steal mail from customers between June 2021 and March 2023, targeting packages that weren’t addressed to her. The mother of one worked in the Sales, Service, and Distribution department at the Westmoreland post office.
Harman’s scheme involved opening mail, removing items, and hiding packages, causing a total estimated loss of $530 to customers. Investigators found 16 pieces of mail stashed away throughout the post office, a grim reminder of the trust she betrayed.
But it gets worse. Harman also issued herself a post office box without paying, further exploiting her position for personal gain.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser slammed Harman’s actions, stating that even with the rise of email, Americans still rely on the mail system and ‘damaged trust cannot be tolerated.’
