Postal Worker Indicted for On-the-Job Assault
A Memphis man has been slapped with a serious charge after allegedly assaulting a colleague while on the job at the United States Postal Service. Richard Martin, 59, of Memphis, is accused of committing the heinous act on January 23, 2016.
According to the indictment, Martin knowingly and forcibly assaulted a U.S. Postal Service employee. The assault reportedly occurred while the defendant and the victim were at work. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is leading the investigation into this disturbing incident.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Hall is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. If convicted, Martin faces up to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
The indictment was handed down on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. However, it is essential to note that the charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and Martin is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
U.S. Attorney Edward L. Stanton III announced the indictment, confirming that the matter is being taken seriously. The severity of the alleged offense highlights the need for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful work environment. The U.S. Postal Service has a responsibility to its employees, and any breach of that responsibility will be met with swift and severe consequences.
The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear what led to the alleged assault. However, one thing is certain: Martin will face the full force of the law if found guilty.
