PROVIDENCE, RI – Robert H. King, 35, of Cranston, is facing a fresh wave of federal charges related to the exploitation of children, just years after a prior conviction for indecent solicitation. King was arraigned today on charges of coercion/enticement of a minor to engage in sexual conduct, possession of child pornography, and distribution of child pornography, sending him back into custody as authorities dig deeper into his disturbing behavior.
The case began unfolding in January 2020 when the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The alert flagged an upload of child pornography originating from an IP address within Rhode Island. Tracing the signal led investigators to an internet subscriber in West Warwick, and ultimately, to King, who was reportedly staying with a friend at the time.
Investigators quickly discovered a pattern of predatory online behavior. According to court documents, King allegedly used social media platforms to contact juveniles, sending them sexually suggestive messages. The most chilling detail emerged from a conversation with a girl who claimed to be twelve years old, where King allegedly solicited her to engage in sexual activity. This isn’t King’s first brush with these kinds of accusations, making his prior conviction a glaring red flag.
On March 26, 2020, the ICAC Task Force executed a search of the West Warwick residence. The search yielded King’s cell phone, which underwent a forensic audit. The results were damning: investigators allegedly uncovered approximately 135 images of child pornography stored on the device. The sheer volume of illicit material paints a disturbing picture of a man obsessed with exploiting vulnerable children.
King, already facing charges in Rhode Island state court related to this matter, appeared before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond today. Judge Almond ordered King detained, recognizing the severity of the charges and the potential danger he poses. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald R. Gendron, with the full support of United States Attorney Aaron L. Weisman, Rhode Island State Police Superintendent Colonel James M. Manni, and Homeland Security Investigations Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael S. Shea.
It’s crucial to remember that a federal criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and King is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented so far suggests a deeply disturbing pattern of behavior. Weisman also extended thanks to the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General for their cooperation in preparing the case for federal prosecution. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops, bringing you the unvarnished truth about those who prey on the innocent.
