Felon Sentenced to Over 5 Years for Possessing Ammunition in Tampa
Tampa, Florida – Prince George Kelly, a 36-year-old man from Apollo Beach, has been sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in federal prison for possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Kelly pleaded guilty on September 28, 2017, to the charge. He was subsequently sentenced by U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington on February 22, 2018.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on December 16, 2016, when officers with the Tampa Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at a residence. When questioned, Kelly allowed officers to pat him down and revealed a Glock magazine loaded with .45 caliber ammunition in his front pants pocket.
As a previously convicted felon, Kelly is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Tampa Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kaitlin R. O’Donnell.
This case is part of the ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ Program, a nationwide effort aimed at reducing violent crime in communities through a comprehensive approach that includes investigating and prosecuting crimes, along with prevention and reentry efforts.
