Prisoner Sentenced for Assault with Deadly Weapon
A harrowing incident of violence behind bars has come to light as Peter Pagan, 28, was sentenced to 100 months in prison for assaulting another inmate and possessing a weapon inside the USP Lee prison in Jonesville, Virginia.
According to court documents, Pagan pleaded guilty in June 2021 for the crime, which took place in June 2020. He attacked inmate A.C. with a prison-made knife known as a “shank” with the intent to do bodily harm.
The assault was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine M. Hummert prosecuted the case for the United States.
Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel P. Bubar of the Western District of Virginia made the announcement, underscoring the seriousness of the crime.
