GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE — SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – In a bold move to combat gun violence, federal authorities have nailed Jeffrey Omar Delgado-López for possessing a deadly machinegun and firearms. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, W. Stephen Muldrow, announced the two-count indictment against the repeat offender.
According to the charges, Delgado-López, already on federal supervised release, was caught with a Glock pistol model 19 loaded with 31 rounds plus an additional 42 rounds of ammunition, all as a convicted felon.
Muldrow emphasized that fighting gun violence is a top priority for his office and the Justice Department. “Jeffrey Omar Delgado-López chose to arm himself illegally in Mayagüez, breaking the law once more,” Muldrow said.
Devin J. Kowalski, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s San Juan Field Office, echoed the sentiment: “We will not allow armed felons to operate in our communities.” Delgado-López faces up to fifteen years in prison if convicted.
The prosecution team includes Assistant U.S. Attorneys Carlos J. Romo-Aledo and Alberto R. Lopez Rocafort from the Gang Section.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
