New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a landmark lawsuit against 13 major e-cigarette brands, including Puff Bar and Elf Bar, for their role in the youth vaping epidemic.
The companies are accused of intentionally marketing highly addictive flavored vapes to underage consumers, despite knowing the health risks. They’ve used candy and fruit flavors, deceptive advertising tactics, and even celebrity endorsements to entice minors. The lawsuit seeks hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, penalties, and the establishment of a youth vaping abatement fund.
Attorney General James stated, ‘The vaping industry is taking a page out of Big Tobacco’s playbook: they’re making nicotine seem cool, getting kids hooked, and creating a massive public health crisis.’
The investigation found that these companies use social media extensively in their marketing, ensuring easy access to schools. They’ve also promoted dangerous trends like ‘vape challenges’ on online platforms.
Among the charges are illegal distribution, misleading advertising about safety and legality, and violations of health regulations designed to prevent youth vaping. The lawsuit aims to hold these companies accountable for causing harm to New Yorkers, especially young people.
The Attorney General’s office is taking a strong stance against this public health crisis, aiming to curb the dangerous trends set by big vape distributors and protect the well-being of minors.
