Armed Robbery Spree Ends in Indictment for Neptune Man
A 24-hour crime spree that began on November 13, 2012, has led to the indictment of a 23-year-old man from Neptune Township, New Jersey.
Quam Wilson is charged with five counts of committing a Hobbs Act robbery, five counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.
The indictment alleges that Wilson engaged in a string of armed robberies in Monmouth County, including a shooting of a cab driver in Asbury Park.
According to the indictment, Wilson shot and robbed a cab driver at approximately 5:00 a.m. on November 13, 2012. The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Wilson then proceeded to a Shell gas station in Ocean Township, where he approached a gas station attendant and robbed him of cash at approximately 7:00 a.m. Later that morning, Wilson attempted to obtain money from the cab driver’s bank account from several area banks.
Wilson was arrested at approximately 10:00 p.m. on November 13, 2012, by several police officers in Asbury Park, where he had been hiding in an attic.
Each count of Hobbs Act robbery carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison, while the charge of using a firearm during a crime of violence carries a maximum potential penalty of life in prison. The charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon carries a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman praised special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their investigation.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Joseph Gribko of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.
Wilson will be arraigned on the indictment on a date to be determined.
The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
