St. Louis, MO – A Washington Park man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a brazen attempted carjacking that took place in the early morning hours of July 15, 2016, in the City of St. Louis.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Quavo Delmontae Williams, along with two accomplices, Keonta Carnell Douglas and Stephen Redd, approached the owner of a local restaurant as he was walking to his vehicle after work. Williams, posing as a lost individual, asked the victim for directions, but his true intentions were far from innocent. After the victim gave him directions, Douglas and Redd emerged from around the corner, all three armed with firearms.
The three demanded that the victim hand over all of his belongings, including his car keys. The victim, fearing for his life, handed over the keys, and the three entered his car. However, they were unable to start the vehicle and asked the victim for assistance. The victim took advantage of the situation and made a run for it.
Williams then instructed Redd to ‘get him,’ and Redd fired a shot, striking the victim in the leg. The victim was able to escape the scene, leaving the three would-be carjackers behind. In a stroke of luck, Douglas accidentally left his phone in the victim’s car, which the FBI was able to use to track him down.
Williams eventually confessed to his role in the attempted carjacking and brandishing a firearm. He pleaded guilty on March 28, 2018, to one felony count of attempted carjacking and one felony count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
At a hearing before United States District Judge Ronnie White, Williams was sentenced to 12 years in prison. His accomplices, Keonta Carnell Douglas and Stephen Redd, received sentences of 102 and 144 months in prison, respectively.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
