Armed Robbery Rocks Creve Coeur Jewelers
ST. LOUIS, MO – In a brazen daylight robbery, four masked individuals stormed Vincent’s Jewelers in Creve Coeur, Missouri, making off with numerous pieces of jewelry.
According to a federal complaint, the incident occurred on March 19, 2018, at approximately 12:40 p.m. The suspects, armed with a firearm and a pipe, ordered workers to the rear of the business at gunpoint.
The individuals gained access to the jewelry cases by discharging a firearm into one of the cases. Two of the suspects used the pipe to smash the glass, while Gladney and another individual took numerous pieces of jewelry.
However, the suspects’ getaway was marred by a critical mistake. During the course of the robbery, Gladney shot himself, leaving a trail of blood behind. The trail of blood was discovered leading from the glass case outside to the location where the getaway vehicle was parked.
The St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD) Crime Scene Detectives responded to the scene, processing the area and obtaining multiple samples of the blood from the trail of blood. The SLCPD Crime Lab was able to develop a DNA profile from the blood samples and matched it to Michael Gladney.
Gladney, 41, of St. Louis, was taken into custody without incident and made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. The United States Attorney requested that Gladney be detained pending trial.
