A Quinton man, Vincent Hopson, 66, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for receiving child sexual abuse material.
The sentencing came after a lengthy investigation by the FBI, which identified an IP address used to seek the material in July 2021.
Law enforcement then identified that the IP address was assigned to the residence of Hopson, who was subsequently found to be in possession of 283 images and 95 videos of the material.
Prosecutors said that Hopson’s actions were a clear violation of the trust placed in him as a member of the community.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather H. Mansfield prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by child predators and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against their crimes.
The investigation was led by the FBI’s Richmond Field Office, with assistance from local law enforcement agencies.
Hopson’s sentencing is a significant step forward in the fight against child exploitation and abuse, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who commit these crimes to justice.
