ST. LOUIS, MO – Charles Lionel McGilberry, 41, of St. Charles, MO, has admitted to buying child sexual abuse material online, marking a disturbing trend in the war against child exploitation.
McGilberry pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He admitted making two separate purchases of child sexual abuse material on Aug. 28, 2022.
During the investigation, authorities discovered a staggering 768 videos and 29 images containing child pornography in McGilberry’s Apple iCloud account, and a further 152 videos and 2 images on his cell phone. This disturbing evidence leaves no doubt about the severity of McGilberry’s crimes.
The Homeland Security Investigations team worked tirelessly to bring McGilberry to justice, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Chapman prosecuted the case with conviction. This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of child exploitation and abuse.
McGilberry is scheduled to be sentenced on October 23, where he faces a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison. Each crime is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, making this a grave consequence for his actions.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children online, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
