COLUMBUS, Ohio – The grim saga of the Short North Posse came to a close today as United States District Court jury convicted Johnathan Holt, 24, of Columbus, on all counts in the federal racketeering and murder case.
Holt now stands sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murder in aid of racketeering and murder through the use of a firearm during drug trafficking crimes.
The jury’s verdict completes a two-year investigation spearheaded by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Holt is the final defendant among 20 who were indicted in October 2014 on charges ranging from murders and attempted murders to drug trafficking, weapons offenses, extortion, and robbery.
Of those charged, five have been convicted, 13 pleaded guilty, and one individual died during the course of the investigation. Holt’s conviction caps a relentless pursuit for justice in central Ohio.
In announcing the verdict, U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman emphasized the collective effort that led to today’s historic outcome. “This success only strengthens our resolve to reduce violence and bring to justice violent offenders,” Glassman said, commending the meticulous work of federal agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF, as well as local law enforcement partners.
U.S. Attorney Glassman also acknowledged the contributions of Assistant U.S. Attorneys David DeVillers, Kevin Kelley, Brian Martinez, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy Lowe, who represented the United States in this case and related matters.
