Rakim Moberly, Armed Drug Trafficking, Kentucky 2019

LEXINGTON, Ky. — In a shocking turn of events, Rakim Moberly, a 31-year-old Lexington resident, has been sentenced to 128 months in federal prison for his involvement in armed drug trafficking.

According to investigators, Moberly was arrested in April 2019 after a disorderly conduct call was made to the Lexington Police Department. During his arrest, officers found a loaded 9mm handgun in Moberly’s pocket, as well as several bags of narcotics.

While being held at the Fayette County Detention Center, Moberly attempted to conceal the narcotics, but officers were able to retrieve them. The bags contained 9.62 grams of fentanyl, 37.415 grams of methamphetamine, and 0.475 grams of cocaine.

The charges against Moberly include possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Under federal law, Moberly will be required to serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for five years.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Lexington Police Department, with the United States being represented by Assistant United States Attorney Cynthia T. Rieker.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

As the 150th anniversary of the Justice Department approaches, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and working together to create safer communities.
