A New Bedford man has been brought to justice for his role in distributing heroin in the city.
Ramon Serrano, 43, pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
The charge provides for a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison, at least four years of supervised release and a fine of up to $5 million.
The guilty plea was entered on September 12, 2022, and Serrano is scheduled to be sentenced on January 11, 2023.
Serrano was charged in July 2019, after a search of his residence on February 20, 2019, uncovered a large quantity of narcotics.
During the search, approximately $27,000 in cash, digital scales, cellular telephones and a money counter were recovered, along with over 544 grams of fentanyl and heroin, as well as over 206 grams of cocaine, divided into separate plastic bags for distribution.
The case was investigated by the New Bedford Police Department and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Estes of the Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit is handling the case.
