Third Degree Burglary and Larceny Rocks Eagle Butte
A disturbing crime has shaken the quiet town of Eagle Butte in South Dakota. Randall Little Shield, a 22-year-old local man, has been accused of committing a brazen burglary at the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Junior High School last June.
According to a federal indictment, Little Shield allegedly entered the school with the intent to steal and purloin computer equipment and office supplies worth over $1,000. The stolen goods included desktop computer towers, computer keyboards, computer monitors, and various other school office supplies.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on September 16, 2014, also charges Little Shield with Third Degree Burglary, a serious offense that carries a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, as well as 3 years of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Little Shield appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on October 9, 2014, and pled not guilty to the indictment. He was subsequently remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
The investigation into the burglary is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson leading the prosecution. Trial is set to begin on November 18, 2014.
