Randy Grayson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Tennessee 2022

Randy Grayson, a 43-year-old convicted felon, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for being in possession of a firearm, a crime he was previously convicted of.

The incident occurred on January 15, 2017 in Memphis, Tennessee, when Memphis Police Officers noticed a silver Infiniti G35 with expired license plates, running.

Officers approached the vehicle and observed Grayson sitting unconscious in the driver’s seat with a black pistol on his lap. They were able to retrieve the weapon without incident. The pistol was a Sig .40 caliber pistol with one round in the chamber and several in the magazine.

Grayson was also found with a knife clipped to his waist and a bag of marijuana in his front pocket, containing several individual bags of marijuana, totaling 26.8 grams.

On January 9, 2020, Grayson pled guilty to the charges.

However, Grayson failed to attend his sentencing hearing on June 8, 2020 and remained a fugitive for approximately a year and a half.

On March 25, 2022, United States District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman sentenced Grayson to 120 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case was investigated by the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Task Force, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our communities safer for everyone.
