Rapid City Man Sentenced for Arson
A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 57 months of imprisonment for intentionally setting fire to a trailer at Belt Village. Duane Benson, age 31, was found guilty of Arson and sentenced on April 21, 2016, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court.
Benson was charged on May 19, 2015, and pleaded guilty on December 18, 2015. The conviction stems from his intentional act of setting fire to a trailer at Belt Village in Rapid City.
According to court records, Benson was sentenced to 57 months of imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson prosecuted the case.
