Rats Infestation, Minnesota 1918

May 29, 1918, will be remembered as the day the citizens of New Ulm were alerted to a growing threat lurking along the banks of the Minnesota River. Just south of the Eagle Mill and near the old saw mill, a dumping ground for manure and other waste matter has become a veritable rat paradise. The stench is overpowering, and the very ground seems to be teeming with vicious rodents. The situation is dire, as rats are notorious carriers of disease, and it’s only a matter of time before they spread filth and possibly disease to the barns and basements of the town.
