Rochester Man Pleads Guilty to Selling Cocaine
Rochester, NY – In a shocking turn of events, 45-year-old Raul Matos of Rochester, NY, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, cocaine. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan, New York Field Division. The investigation revealed that on three separate occasions between November 2017 and February 16, 2018, the defendant sold a quantity of cocaine to an individual working with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. McGrath, who is handling the case, stated that the plea is a significant blow to the ongoing cocaine trade in the Rochester area. McGrath’s statement read, ‘The sale of cocaine has devastating effects on our community, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.’
Raul Matos is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22, 2019, before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. The outcome of the sentencing will determine the extent of Matos’s punishment, with a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
