Pittsburgh, PA – A federal firearms law has been broken by a convicted felon in the Steel City. Raymont Tyrone Dillard, 36, has been slapped with a federal indictment for violating a strict firearms law.
According to the indictment, on December 30, 2024, Dillard possessed a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. This blatant disregard for the law has caught the attention of the DOJ’s USAO. ‘The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment,’ stated a DOJ spokesperson.
The federal law in question prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition, carrying a harsh penalty of not less than 15 years and up to life in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000, or both. This case is a stark reminder of the severity of violating federal firearms law.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark V. Gurzo will be prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States. This move is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence in communities nationwide.
The PSN program, launched on May 26, 2021, aims to strengthen trust and legitimacy in communities, support community-based organizations, set focused enforcement priorities, and measure results. With this new initiative, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Dillard is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the gravity of this offense cannot be overstated. The consequences of violating federal firearms law are severe, and the Department of Justice will not hesitate to prosecute cases like this to the fullest extent of the law.
