Redby Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Vicious Beating Death of 2-Year-Old Son
The gruesome case of a 23-month-old boy beaten to death by his father has ended with a 30-year prison sentence for GARY WAYNE JACKSON, JR., 26. The father, in a fit of rage, repeatedly punched his child on January 2, 2018, resulting in the child’s death.
According to court documents, following the assault, JACKSON failed to seek appropriate medical care for his son. The final autopsy report revealed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head and torso.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force and the Red Lake Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clifford B. Wardlaw prosecuted the case, which stemmed from JACKSON’s guilty plea on June 20, 2018.
U.S. District Judge Ann D. Montgomery sentenced JACKSON to 30 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The sentence brings a sense of closure to the family and friends of the young victim.
The community is left to wonder how a father could commit such a heinous act against his own child. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of seeking help when struggling with emotions.
As a society, we must come together to support families and individuals struggling with anger management and other issues that may lead to violent outbursts. We can only hope that the sentence brings some measure of justice to the family of the young victim.
The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota, has released a statement following the sentencing. For more information, please contact (612) 664-5600.
