A former Las Vegas resident has pleaded guilty to traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Renad Bautista, age 31, pleaded guilty to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
According to the court, Bautista traveled from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh between December 5th and December 9th, 2019, with the intention of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor he had been messaging on social media.
The investigation that led to Bautista’s prosecution was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Mifflin Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
Bautista is scheduled to be sentenced on September 21st, 2021. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
