Seattle – A 44-year-old Renton man, David Christopher Pitts, was sentenced today to 11 years in prison for federal drug and gun crimes. The U.S. Attorney Nick Brown announced the sentence after Pitts’ arrest in December 2021 following an undercover investigation into his drug trafficking activities.
Pitts was arrested after law enforcement purchased fentanyl from him at his Renton residence. A search warrant led to the discovery of a massive stash of drugs and firearms, including 25 guns and large quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, Xanax, heroin, cocaine, suboxone, ketamine, and more than $55,000 in cash.
U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones emphasized the damage drug addiction does to the community during the sentencing hearing. “Look at all the people you see in our city clutching foil and a straw,” he said. “You are feeding their addiction every day… They can’t pay their rent, they can’t feed their children.”
Assistant United States Attorney Erin H. Becker argued for a 12-year sentence, highlighting the defendant’s intention to distribute more than 470,000 lethal doses of fentanyl and his possession of 25 firearms used to facilitate drug trafficking.
Richard A. Collodi, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Seattle field office, emphasized the threat Pitts posed to public safety. “This case illustrates how the FBI is committed to getting fentanyl off our streets,” he said.
The investigation was conducted by the Seattle Police Department as part of the FBI’s Violent Crime, Gang and Organized Crime Task Force, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorney Erin H. Becker.
