GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Reames, 49, of Renwick, Iowa, was handed a federal prison term of over four years for his illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence came after Reames entered a guilty plea on January 16, 2014, to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Information provided by the United States at the sentencing and change of plea hearings revealed that Reames had a previous felony conviction in Iowa District Court for Humboldt County in 1995. This prior offense disqualified him from legally owning firearms. Nevertheless, on April 16, 2013, Reames stole a rifle during a burglary and later sold it to another individual.
United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett sentenced Reames to 57 months’ imprisonment in Sioux City. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and he is also required to serve a 3-year term of supervised release following his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Reames is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
