Ex-Correctional Officer Sentenced for Bribery in NC

RHONDA BOYD, a 28-year-old former correctional officer at the Rivers Correctional Institution in Winton, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, to be followed by 2 years of supervised release.

The sentencing took place on an unknown date, but occurred in 2012, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

According to the investigation, BOYD conspired to commit bribery in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Sections 371. The evidence revealed that for approximately six months in 2011 and 2012, BOYD accepted payments from inmates within the facility in return for smuggling in contraband items such as cell phones and cigarettes.

The investigation was conducted by the Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance provided by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
