Philadelphia Woman Charged With Tax Evasion
A Philadelphia woman has been accused of helping her clients file false income tax returns, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
According to the indictment, Rhonda Coleman, 56, of Philadelphia, co-owned P.C. Tax Services, a business located in Philadelphia. She allegedly used her position as a tax preparer to falsely overstate and include income, deductions, and credits on her clients’ returns without their authorization between 2011 and 2012.
Coleman is charged with 19 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of materially false income tax returns.
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tomika N.S. Patterson.
An indictment is an accusation, and Coleman is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
If convicted, Coleman faces a maximum possible sentence of 48 years’ imprisonment, three years’ supervised release, a $1,900,000 fine, and a $1,900 special assessment.
Rhonda Coleman, 56, of Philadelphia, PA, is the defendant in this case.
The crime took place between 2011 and 2012.
The case is ongoing.
