A 29-year-old Mexican national is facing federal charges after a search of a residence in Homedale, Idaho, turned up evidence of methamphetamine possession and conspiracy.
Ricardo Renteria-Castillo, 29, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, as well as conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court.
The charges allege that Renteria-Castillo possessed methamphetamine on August 9, 2017, and that he conspired with others to distribute the substance from July 2017 until August 8, 2017.
Renteria-Castillo appeared in federal court in Boise on August 11, 2017, and has not yet been scheduled for trial.
Both charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million, and three years of supervised release.
The investigation into Renteria-Castillo’s activities involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Homedale Police Department, the Boise Police Department, and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, among others.
The investigation was also part of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a federal multi-agency task force that provides funding to agencies involved in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of major drug trafficking organizations.
A complaint is a means of charging a person with criminal activity and is not evidence of guilt. Renteria-Castillo is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
