In a shocking turn of events, Richelle Bowker, 37, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the brutal stabbing death of her boyfriend in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
The incident occurred on June 9, 2015, when Bowker and the victim got into an argument.
According to court documents, the victim took Bowker’s phone and broke it in half, prompting her to grab a steak knife and stab him six times.
The victim sustained serious injuries, including multiple stab wounds to his chest, shoulder, and hand.
He died as a result of the attack.
Bowker was initially charged with Second Degree Murder, but she pleaded guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter on March 8, 2016.
She was sentenced on June 14, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange to 126 months in custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
In addition to her prison sentence, Bowker was ordered to pay $9,464.76 in restitution and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The U.S. Marshals Service took Bowker into custody immediately after the sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.
The community is still reeling from the shocking incident, and many are calling for justice to be served.
