Rickie Gonzalez, Bank Robbery, Ohio 2016

Bank Robbery Strikes Youngstown and Boardman

A pair of bank robbers left a trail of fear and financial loss in their wake, and now they’re facing the music. Rickie Gonzalez, 51, of Campbell, and Michael Zarlingo, 55, of Struthers, have been hit with a two-count indictment for allegedly robbing a pair of banks in Youngstown and Boardman.

The first robbery allegedly took place on April 18, 2016, when Gonzalez is accused of robbing a Huntington Bank in Boardman. Less than a week later, on April 28, 2016, Zarlingo and Gonzalez allegedly robbed a PNC Bank in Youngstown.

The investigation into the robberies was a collaborative effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, the Youngstown Police Department, the Boardman Police Department, and the Hubbard Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jason M. Katz will be handling the prosecution.

An indictment is merely a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Gonzalez and Zarlingo are entitled to a fair trial, and it will be the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The potential sentence for the defendants will be determined by the court after reviewing various factors, including their prior criminal records, their roles in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations. The sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, will be less than the maximum.

Gonzalez and Zarlingo are facing serious charges, and if convicted, they will likely be looking at significant prison time. The exact sentence will depend on the outcome of their trial.
