Ricky Laron Shannon, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Oklahoma 2021

Grimy Times has learned that Ricky Laron Shannon, a 34-year-old felon and gang member, pleaded guilty in federal court for possessing firearms in Oklahoma. On June 11, 2021, Tulsa Police officers stopped Shannon for several traffic violations. During the stop, officers observed Shannon making reaching movements with his right hand towards the passenger’s side of the vehicle and noted that an object appeared to be in his hand. Officers also discovered that Shannon was a certified member of the 107 Hoover gang and a felon. A Glock 30 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the vehicle, loaded with a high capacity magazine.

Shannon was later arrested on August 13, 2021, based on a federal warrant stemming from the June traffic stop. During the arrest, officers found a different Glock 30 underneath the driver’s seat of the car, along with a high capacity magazine and 28 rounds of ammunition. The firearm was both magazine and chamber loaded.

The investigation was conducted by the Tulsa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark R. Morgan and John E. Brasher are prosecuting the case.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the 2150 Initiative, a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma, Tulsa Police Department, ATF, and local law enforcement partners to combat violent crime. The initiative was named in memory of Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson, whose badge number, 2150, was selected as a way to honor his life and commitment to the Tulsa community.

Ricky Laron Shannon, 34, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He admitted to possessing a Glock 30 .45 caliber pistol and 28 rounds of ammunition on June 11, 2021, and another Glock 30 and 28 rounds of ammunition on August 13, 2021.
