Rigoberto Cano Perez, Illegal Reentry, Rhode Island 2025

Rigoberto Cano Perez, a 28-year-old Guatemalan national, has admitted to illegally reentering the United States just six months after his deportation. Perez was removed from the country on November 20, 2024, after being convicted in Rhode Island state court in December 2023 on charges of simple assault and/or battery and disorderly conduct.

On May 12, 2025, Immigration Officers learned that Perez was arrested in Rhode Island the day before for violating a domestic no contact order and on a domestic disorderly conduct charge. It was revealed through an automated biometric fingerprint match that Perez’s fingerprints were entered into the National Crime Information Center, leading to his arrest.

Perez’s case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the federal government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Taylor A. Dean and Peter I. Roklan. The matter was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Perez is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28, 2025. The sentence imposed will be determined by a federal district judge after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The federal government is cracking down on illegal immigration and violent crime, and this case is a prime example of the consequences of reentering the country illegally. Perez’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of the community.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that this case sends a strong message that those who attempt to enter the country illegally will be held accountable for their actions.
