Cody Branson Barnes, Illegal Receipt of a Firearm, Oklahoma 2023

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A Ringling man has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for his role in a gun crime, according to federal authorities.

Cody Branson Barnes, 22, was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment and 3 years supervised release for Illegal Receipt of a Firearm by a Person Under Felony Indictment or Information, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(n) and 924(a)(1)(D).

The charge against Barnes arose from an investigation by the Ardmore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to court documents, Barnes was under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year when he received a firearm on January 31, 2014.

The firearm had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce, and Barnes’ actions were in direct violation of federal law.

Barnes pleaded guilty to the charge in October, 2014, and was sentenced by Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee.

The defendant will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated facility where he will serve his nonparolable sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson represented the United States in the case.
