A Rhode Island man has been charged with robbing a bank in Westbrook, Connecticut.
According to authorities, Robert Chadronet, 38, of Rumford, Rhode Island, used force, violence and intimidation to rob $2,329 from a branch of Citizens Bank located at 1187 Boston Post Road in Westbrook on August 27, 2015.
Chadronet appeared earlier today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.
The indictment alleges that Chadronet committed the crime, and if convicted, he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to __ (fine amount not specified in the article).
Chadronet is currently on federal supervised release for a prior bank robbery conviction.
The investigation is ongoing.
U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Connecticut State Police, Branford Police Department, Milford Police Department and Wareham (Mass.) Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
