A Melbourne man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for distributing images of child sexual abuse.
Robert Lee Ripley, 47, was sentenced on February 24, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron.
Ripley pleaded guilty to distributing images of child sexual abuse on June 24, 2021.
The court also ordered Ripley to pay $5,000 in restitution and serve 10 years of supervised release.
Ripley had admitted to receiving and sharing images of child pornography through the KIK application.
According to court documents, the images were shared with Ripley by a male subject who had produced them by sexually abusing a five-year-old girl.
The case was investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations.
Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda prosecuted the case.
This is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
