In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Robert McMahon, a 32-year-old man from Crown Point, Indiana, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for possession of child pornography.
According to court documents, McMahon pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon.
Between March 2019 and August 2021, McMahon possessed images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, including images of at least one minor under the age of 12.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Indiana State Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s office in Wisconsin. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. McGrath.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
McMahon will also serve 3 years of supervised release following his prison sentence. This harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in such heinous crimes.
As a society, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our children from exploitation and abuse. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our communities to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
