NASHUA, NH – A local man is facing serious federal charges after a December raid turned up a disturbing collection of firearms and ammunition, authorities announced Thursday. Robert Reidy, 32, of Nashua, is accused of illegally possessing weapons despite a prior felony conviction, a move that puts him squarely in the crosshairs of federal law.
The indictment, handed down by a grand jury, details how on December 5, 2023, authorities seized three pistols, a short-barreled rifle, a silencer, and a staggering 160 rounds of ammunition from Reidy. As a convicted felon, Reidy is legally barred from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition, a restriction he allegedly ignored. What makes this case even more concerning is the presence of unregistered firearms – the short-barreled rifle and silencer – meaning they weren’t legally registered with the federal government.
U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young’s office is prosecuting the case, and Reidy is currently in state custody on related charges. He’s scheduled to appear in federal court on March 6 at 2:00 p.m., where he’ll formally answer to the indictment. The investigation was a joint effort between the Nashua Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with support from the Manchester Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Scanlon is leading the prosecution.
If convicted on the charge of possession of firearms and ammunition by a prohibited person, Reidy could face up to 15 years in prison, a three-year term of supervised release, and a hefty fine of up to $250,000. The charge of possessing unregistered firearms carries a potential sentence of no more than 10 years, three years of supervised release, and a $10,000 fine. However, the final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge, taking into account U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable federal statutes.
This isn’t just about guns; it’s about public safety,” a source close to the investigation told Grimy Times. “A felon with this kind of firepower is a clear and present danger. The ATF and Nashua PD moved quickly to get him off the streets, and we’re confident the justice system will hold him accountable.” The source further emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling illegal gun trafficking and keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals.
It’s crucial to remember that the charges outlined in the indictment are merely allegations at this point. Reidy is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence gathered so far paints a grim picture, and the feds appear to have a strong case against the Nashua man. Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as it develops.
