A brazen daytime robbery rocked the Rite Aid pharmacy in Bridgton, Maine, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013.
According to federal authorities, Robert Richard, 26, of Gardiner, Maine, allegedly interfered with commerce by robbery, stealing from the pharmacy.
Contacted for comment, Assistant United States Attorney Julia M. Lipez referred all inquiries to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Richard was indicted by a federal grand jury in Portland on Tuesday. If convicted, Richard faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Court records reveal that Richard was arrested and made his first appearance in federal court yesterday. A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2014.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bridgton Police Department, with assistance from the Augusta and Gardiner Police Departments, and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
