SIOUX FALLS, SD – Robert Wolfe Jr., 45, of Sisseton, South Dakota, is headed to federal prison for more than two years after a raid turned up a rifle in his home. U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange handed down the 2.5-year sentence on March 13, 2026, plus three years of supervised release.
Wolfe was busted back in April 2024 when Roberts County deputies, acting on a warrant, searched his Sisseton residence. They found a Remington bolt-action rifle. The problem? Wolfe already had a felony on his record – a 2014 conviction for possessing a controlled substance – which legally barred him from owning a firearm.
He pleaded guilty in November 2025 to the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The judge also ordered Wolfe to forfeit the rifle and pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The bust was a joint effort by the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce handled the prosecution.
Wolfe was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. The feds are framing the case as part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broad initiative targeting cartels, illegal immigration, and violent crime through coordinated efforts by the DOJ’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
