Raymond G. Girard, a 36-year-old resident of Rochester, N.Y., has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition, a charge that could land him up to 15 years behind bars.
U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the plea, which was entered before U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. Girard’s legal trouble began when law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence on January 14, 2023. The seizure resulted in over 400 rounds of various caliber ammunition being taken into custody.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, the case against Girard stems from a previous felony conviction in Monroe County Court. In June 2016, Girard was found guilty of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, which prohibited him from owning or possessing ammunition.
The investigation into Girard’s latest offense was a joint effort by several law enforcement agencies. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Rochester Police Department all played pivotal roles under the leadership of Sheriff Todd Baxter, Major Miklos Szoczei II, Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller, and Chief David Smith, respectively.
Sentencing for Girard is set for October 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Geraci, who will determine the final penalty for the former felon’s latest transgression.
