Frederick Young, Failing to Register as Sex Offender, New York 2011

Rochester man gets 24 months in prison for failing to register as sex offender.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced that Frederick Young, 46, of Rochester, was sentenced to 24 months in prison and five years supervised release by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa for failing to register as a sex offender.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee stated that Young left the Rochester area sometime after August 2010 to live in the State of Florida. Between November 2010 and November 2011, Young knowingly failed to register as a sex offender in Florida. He also failed to update his registration status in the State of New York.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The sentence was the culmination of an investigation on the part of the United States Marshals Service under the direction of United States Marshal Charles Salina.

Young’s conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder that failing to register as a sex offender is a serious crime with severe consequences. As a result of his actions, Young will spend the next two years behind bars, a fitting punishment for his failure to comply with the law.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting the public and holding offenders accountable for their actions.
