Hattiesburg Man Sentenced to Over Ten Years in Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
A Hattiesburg man has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking. Roderick Simpson, 44, of Hattiesburg, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett to 121 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the case began on October 10, 2016, when DEA agents utilized a confidential source to purchase 55.4 grams of methamphetamine from Simpson for $900. Simpson pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on June 6, 2018.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shundral H. Cole. Assistant Special Agent in Charge Derryle Smith with the DEA also praised the efforts of the agents and prosecutors involved in the case.
Simpson was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, in addition to the lengthy prison sentence.
The sentencing of Roderick Simpson serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat methamphetamine trafficking in the state of Mississippi.
A total of 121 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, is a significant sentence for someone involved in methamphetamine trafficking. The sentence should serve as a deterrent to others who would seek to engage in similar activities.
