Rodney D. Deminds, Jr., Conspiracy to Transport Stolen Motor Vehicles, Pennsylvania 2014

The Grimy Times has learned that a Maryland man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a massive motorcycle and tractor theft ring.

Rodney D. Deminds, Jr., 24, of Belcamp, Md., was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, on his conviction of conspiracy to transport stolen motor vehicles across state lines.

According to information presented to the court, Deminds and his co-conspirators traveled from Baltimore to various retail dealerships in Pennsylvania and Virginia between July 2011 and April 2012, stealing motorcycles and tractors valued at over $200,000.

The stolen items were sold in Baltimore, with Deminds and his co-conspirators taking the items back to their base after each successful heist.

Deminds was arrested and charged in connection with the crime, which occurred at least 14 times between July 2011 and April 2012.

The value of the stolen items exceeded $200,000, making this one of the most significant cases of motor vehicle theft in recent history.

Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the Pennsylvania State Police, Western Pennsylvania Auto Theft Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and detectives from Harford County, Maryland, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Deminds.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement working together to combat crime.
