Two Foreign Nationals Charged with Possessing Firearm in Mayfield, Kentucky
A federal complaint and arrest warrant have been issued against Rodrigo Waldemar Caal-Caal, 22, a citizen of Guatemala, and Rodolfo Ruiz-Hernandez, 26, a citizen of Mexico, for possession of a firearm in Mayfield, Kentucky.
On April 6, 2025, Caal-Caal and Ruiz-Hernandez were charged with possessing a firearm, knowing they were aliens illegally and unlawfully in the United States. The charge stemmed from an incident on the same day, where they admitted to removing a firearm from the scene of a death investigation in Mayfield.
According to the complaint, both defendants are facing a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case is being investigated by the ATF Paducah Satellite Office, HSI Paducah Office, and the Mayfield Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth A. Hancock is prosecuting the cases.
The Mayfield Police Department continues to investigate the death, and both defendants are separately charged in state court with additional offenses. They remain in state custody and will make initial appearances before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky at a later date.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
