Roman Hernandez, Heroin Distribution, Ohio 2013

A Grove City man has been handed a 60-month prison sentence for his role in distributing heroin in central Ohio.

Roman Hernandez, 38, was sentenced to 60 months in prison on one count of possession with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and one count of money laundering.

The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge James L. Graham on Friday.

According to court documents, Hernandez was identified as a narcotics trafficker through a joint investigation conducted by the IRS, ATF, and the Central Ohio HIDTA in cooperation with the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Hernandez’s home on Norwood Street in Columbus on April 9, 2013, where they seized $55,000, financial records, and documents detailing the purchase of a home for $70,000 in cash.

Further investigation revealed that Hernandez withdrew $26,000 from his personal checking account and purchased a cashier’s check to be used towards the purchase of the home, which was purchased using proceeds from the sale of narcotics.

Hernandez’s sentence is a result of an investigation by the Central Ohio HIDTA Task Force, led by Benjamin C. Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, in partnership with Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Prichard.
