Brent M. Gorshe Pleads Guilty to Oxycodone Distribution in Belmont County

A Belmont County, Ohio man has pleaded guilty to distributing oxycodone, a powerful opioid, in a case that spans multiple years and counties.

Brent M. Gorshe, 27, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, admitted to conspiring to distribute and possess oxycodone with the intent to distribute, according to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.

The crime took place in Ohio County and elsewhere from 2013 to 2016. Gorshe faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000, depending on the seriousness of the offenses and his prior criminal history.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert H. McWilliams, Jr. on behalf of the government. The Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the matter.

U.S. Magistrate Judge James E. Seibert presided over the case. Gorshe’s sentencing is set to take place in the coming months, at which time the actual sentence imposed will be determined.

The guilty plea comes as part of a larger effort to combat opioid abuse and distribution in the region. The Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force has been working tirelessly to identify and prosecute those responsible for bringing these deadly substances into our communities.
