LEXINGTON, Ky. – A Carlisle man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a firearms crime. Ronald G. Miller, 43, was handed down a 60-month sentence by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell on Thursday.
Miller was arrested after law enforcement observed him openly carrying a loaded handgun at the Blackberry Festival on July 2, 2024. It was discovered that Miller was a convicted felon and had knowingly possessed the firearm.
During his arrest, Miller yelled to his girlfriend to “go home and lock everything down.” A search warrant was later obtained for Miller’s residence, revealing a rifle, pistol, and multiple magazines and boxes of ammunition.
Miller admitted to knowing he was a convicted felon and faces federal charges for his actions. Under federal law, he must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence.
Upon his release from prison, Miller will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years. This case was prosecuted as part of the “Project Safe Neighborhoods” Program, aimed at decreasing violent crime in communities.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF, Carlisle Police Department, and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The U.S. Attorney’s Office was represented in the case by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paco Villalobos.
The “Project Safe Neighborhoods” Program is a nationwide crime reduction strategy that includes investigating and prosecuting crimes, along with prevention and reentry efforts. Acting U.S. Attorney Paul McCaffrey coordinates PSN efforts in cooperation with various federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
