A Marion man has been sentenced to more than 18 years in prison for robbing two banks in Marion last summer. Ronald R. Myles, Jr., 35, was found guilty of robbing two Commercial Savings Bank branches in June 2016.

According to trial testimony and court documents, Myles wore a ski mask, pointed a firearm at bank employees, and threatened them during the robberies. He was previously convicted of two previous robberies and served eight years in state prison.

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary sentenced Myles to 222 months in prison. The sentence was handed down after a jury convicted Myles of robbing the two Commercial Savings Bank branches. Myles’ actions put the lives of bank tellers and customers in jeopardy.

Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey praised the efforts of his office, the Marion City Police, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their work in bringing Myles to justice. ‘I am grateful for the efforts of my office, the Marion City Police, the FBI, the citizens who provided information to assist with the investigation, and also the U.S. Attorney’s Office,’ Bailey said.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marion Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tracey Ballard Tangeman and Thomas P. Weldon.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony said that Myles’ actions were a threat to the community, and that the FBI and local partners would not tolerate such violent acts. ‘Ronald R. Myles, Jr. put the life of a bank teller and customer in jeopardy when he used a deadly weapon during the commission of the bank robberies,’ Anthony said.

Acting U.S. Attorney David Sierleja praised the work of the FBI and Marion Police Department in making the community safer. ‘This prison sentence removes a dangerous person from the streets of Marion,’ Sierleja said.
